General Information
Limestone
Limestone is formed over millions of years by sea shells and the bones
of sea creatures forming sediment on the ocean floor. It is important
to note that no two tiles will be identical, a natural impossibility.
Each tile carries its natural individual characteristics. Measuring
should be done carefully prior to order so that there is sufficient
supply of product to do the job, additional orders may come from different
batches not necessarily matching a previous delivery. It is also important
to measure properly as we do not accept returns.
Laying your stone floor
We recommend that installation is carried out by a professional fitter.
We provide a fitting service which we can quote for on application.
Most limestone will be wet when supplied (stone is cut using water)
therefore it may appear darker than a dry reference sample. It is important
to shuffle the tiles before laying in order to balance colour and veining
differences. Apply one coat of sealant before grouting and a second
coat after.
There are many ways in which a flagstone can be laid. Illustrations
of some of the very best and most traditional arrangements are available
on request.
Cleaning Limestone
We strongly advise all our stone tiles to be installed by experienced
professional stone floor fitters. Your floor fitter will seal your floor
with a sealer as explained above. Please note that sealants and impregnators
are developed to work as a repellant agent to prevent spills, dirt and
grout surplus from sticking to surfaces and assist cleaning procedures.
Wipe up spills as they happen or place a rug/mat in front of areas that
are prone to heavy grease spills e.g. cooker area. Never use bleach
or acidic cleaning products.
